The Registration fee is $70 per child. Additional children in a family are $5 less. This fee is much lower than other similar organizations in the area. Fundraising events are sponsored by the team to meet the remaining costs. The registration fee does not include the cost of tournaments. The fee includes registration in the IKWF organization and a singlet to use during the season. A birth certificate is required for new wrestlers. If you are unable to attend registration, please contact Coach Joe Phelan. Practices are scheduled to begin on Monday, November 5th. It's not too late to register. Come to practice with the registration information.
Singlets will be passed out the week before the first tournament. They are included with the registration fee and must be returned at the end of the season. If not returned, the fee is $50. Wrestling shoes are also required. If you need a pair, please see one of the coaches during the first week of practice. Many kids hand-down shoes from the previous year that no longer fit. Headgear can be purchased through the Badgers (used $5, new $15) or purchased separately. We suggest that you purchase the Badger colors of navy and light gold.
Tournaments are held throughout the area and are usually on Sunday mornings starting in early December. There are 4 age divisions:
Bantam (8 & under)
Junior (9 & 10)
Novice (11 & 12)
Senior (13 & up)
The kids' ages are how old they are as of 1/1/08. In competition, kids will be paired up with others in their division with a similar weight. Approximately 8-10 tournaments are scheduled each season. Each tournament costs about $15 per child. At the end of the season, all kids participate in the Regionals Tournament. Those who advance can go to the Sectionals Tournament, and hopefully on to the State competition, which is held in Rockford in mid-March.
Tournament information will be passed out the week of the tournament. Click on Tournaments to see the schedule and detailed information.
The team raises money to make up the difference from registration fees. Surplus funds go towards Badger clothing and equipment for the kids and families to keep. The team is hosting a tournament in December this season. This will be our major fundraising event of the season. It will take a lot of volunteers, time, and effort, but we are hoping to make this a success.
The 5th Annual Bowling Bash will be held in January or February. The team raffles off items during the bowling bash. Personal donations are accepted, as well as donations from area businesses. If you would like to solicit donations from a business, CLICK HERE to open the letter that you can give them requesting the donation. Types of donations include Event Tickets, sporting goods (blankets, clothing, tailgating stuff), household goods, tools, gift certificates, etc. We do NOT have a not-for-profit ID number.
More information will be provided later.
